Seika Bontan Ame is a Japanese candy that has been sold for a century. It is a soft candy that is made with a tropical fruit called bontan (pomelo).
Pomelo is a citrus fruit native to the Southeast Asian region. This fruit is famous for its size, which is as large as a watermelon or durian and has a sweet-sour taste that is similar to a grapefruit.
This candy contains two different pomelos harvested in Kagoshima Prefecture and citrus unshiu (also known as mandarin orange). As a result, it has a refreshing tangy flavor.
What makes this candy unique is its texture: it is soft but also chewy like a mochi rice cake.
Each piece of candy is wrapped with an edible translucent starch film called oblate, so you can eat it as it is.

I recently purchased Seika Bontan Ame Japanese Pomelo Soft Candy from your store, but unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy it due to the packaging. The candy was stuck to the paper cover, making it impossible to remove or unwrap without damaging it. This experience highlights a flaw in the packaging material, which significantly impacts the usability of the product.
I kindly urge the producer to review and improve the packaging material to ensure that future customers can easily access and enjoy the product without any hindrances.

Thank you for your feedback. Seika Bontan Ame are wrapped with an edible film called Oblaat - not paper - that is meant to be eaten. The film prevents the candies from sticking to each other, and is not meant to be unwrapped.
We mention this in the product description, as we understand it's not a common practice outside of Japan. It's perfectly safe to eat, as it's made from rice starch.

These bite-sized treats (the size of a Starburst) are sweet with a delicious citrus flavor. They are soft and chewy and a bit sticky but they dissolve rather than getting stuck in your teeth. They come in the classic edible rice paper wrapper.

I don't know if my package had a mishap in shipping (although the rest of my order was perfectly fine) but the candy were pretty much fused for life with the wrapping plastic on them. I tried everything to get it off, even cutting it off to no avail.
I ended up having to throw them away. :(
I managed to taste the tiniest bit of candy and I was surprised at how tough it was. The taste was good but the texture was like rubber! Impossible to chew.
